This museum was opened in 1967 and stands on the site of Fleury railway station. Its aim is to provide the visitor with some idea of what conditions were like for the average French and German soldier at Verdun and deliver an overview of the different strategic phases of the battle. Exhibits include a reconstruction of a trench, a French Nieuport aeroplane and various guns and ordnance from the period. The museum also houses the Association Nationale du Souvenir de la Bataille de Verdun whose remit is to conserve and restore the battlefield as well as, through its publications and studies, ensure that future generations are aware of the sacrifices of those who fought here.
