Directions – Rejoin the D937 and continue to the roundabout. Take the first exit off the roundabout (the N25) and, at the next roundabout take the first exit signposted to Mont St Eloi on the D341. The ruins of the abbey are signposted off the road to the road as you enter the village.

Historical Notes – The abbey of Mont St Eloi was founded in the 7th Century AD and saw many historical events before being pulled down during the Revolution, save for the entrance gates and twin towers. These were used as observation posts during the First World War, providing a grandstand view over the battlefield from Arras to Vimy Ridge and Notre Dame Lorette. Their use as a viewing platform, however, led to them being targeted by German artillery and their current state is a result of this destructive attention.
