Location 3 – V3 Base at Mimoyecques

Historical Notes – The Mimoyecques site was the only facility specifically constructed for the housing of the multi-barrelled V-3 weapons more commonly known as the "London guns". Whilst a substantial amount of the complex was completed, construction was some way behind that of Eperlecques and La Coupole. Following a destructive raid by RAF bombers on 6th July 1944, the works were abandoned. Canadian units captured the site in early September.

To help in getting your bearings it is advisable to buy a guidebook at the ticket office in the brassiere near the entrance – this contains a map of the tunnels. Although, less developed than the previous two locations, there are a number of sites of interest as the visitor navigates the extensive tunnel system. These include:

In a further tragic incident Joe Kennedy, elder brother of J.F. Kennedy, was killed whilst flying to attack the Mimoyecques V-3 site. The explosive-filled drone that he was piloting suddenly detonated after leaving its base in Suffolk. His remains were never found.
